Brief

Motorcycle Matcha was born from an extraordinary journey across Japan. Founder Gaston Becherano set out on a motorcycle expedition, traversing winding mountain passes and rural roads to uncover the country’s most exceptional matcha. This adventure led to partnerships with three artisan families who have cultivated matcha for generations, adhering to time-honored practices that prioritize quality and tradition over mass production. The result is a line of premium matcha, crafted in limited quantities, that delivers an authentic taste of Japanese tea culture, rooted in integrity and meticulous craftsmanship.

Finding

The branding for Motorcycle Matcha is a harmonious blend of minimalist Japanese design and the rugged spirit of motorcycle culture. Inspired by vintage Japanese motorcycle advertisements, the visual identity strikes a balance between the purity of tea culture and the thrill of discovery. The design draws on motorcycle iconography paired with traditional tea aesthetics, creating a unique and memorable graphic language that avoids relying on conventional matcha imagery like green leaves or serene cups of tea. Instead, the branding focuses on the founder’s journey, emphasizing the adventure and authenticity that define the brand. The editorial system incorporates typographic hierarchies reminiscent of vintage advertisements, using dynamic layouts to convey clarity and impact while maintaining a sense of nostalgia. This straightforward, honest approach ensures that the branding resonates with a broader audience without losing sight of the brand’s adventurous ethos.
